John K. Smith, "Buzz" " Cap'n John" "Papa", was Born on November 25, 1933 in Plainfield IL to the late Dale and Wilma (Baron) Smith. He passed away peacefully on Friday March 7, 2025 with his loving family by his side at the Morris Hospital.
He was raised and educated in Plainfield then Joined the US Navy and severed on the USS Loeser. Then after he was honorably discharged he moved to Morris and married the love of his life Judith Cryer on September 7 1957, then in the years following they were blessed with 2 sons Terry and Randall. With his love of music he joined a barbershop quartet 'The Castabouts" they performed in many competitions and at Family camp outs. He was the last surviving member of the Castabouts. He was a proud supporter of the Morris Redskins football team, as his son Randy played in 1979, everyone knew John as Johnny Red-feather.
